Family Art Cart Discover the MFA with fun (and educational!) activities designed for children ages 4 and up to do with adults in the galleries. Piece together puzzles, learn mythical tales, and uncover ancient Egyptian mysteries. Choose from our ever-changing array of interactive activities, books and Art Cards. Borrow a tote bag equipped with a sketch-book and colored pencils, and the Cart’s staff will point you on your way! Look for the rolling red Family Art Cart in the Sharf Visitor Center.
October through June Saturday and Sunday, 11 am–4 pm
FREE with Museum admission.
The Family Art Cart is made possible with endowment support from the Germeshausen Foundation Fund for Youth and Family Learning, the John and Dorothy Wilson Fund, and the Louise O. and Robert F. Sharing Art with Children: A Workshop for Adults and Children Monday, December 28, 2009 1pm - 2:30pm
Learn to share the wonder of an art museum with the children in your life. For the first part of this workshop parents and grandparents learn tips and techniques for engaging their children with works of art, while the children participate in a separate art activity. During the second part, we will spend time together in the galleries, looking closely and discussing art. This workshop is the first in a series of three. Join us in February for Stories in Art and focus on Contemporary Art in April. Recommended for ages 6-12.
$25 member $35 non-member This admission is for one parent and one child to one workshop.

Stop by the Sharf Visitor Center to check out one of our MFA family activity tote bags and explore the museum. Each tote contains a variety of self-guided gallery activities, a sketchpad and colored pencils. Families with children ages 4 and up are encouraged to borrow a bag for their journeys throughout the Museum. Available daily at the Sharf Visitor Center. |

The MFA through the Eyes of a Child: A Visiting Guide For Families This guide provides adults and children with information about exploring the Museum. Cogan Family Foundation Vacation Week Adventures Vacation week activities are FREE with Museum admission. No registration required. All ages and abilities welcome. Children should always be accompanied by an adult.

Explore the ancient world and its mysteries this school vacation week with a wide range of fun, hands-on activities. Take a guided tour through a tomb, participate in an interactive performance, listen to stories about powerful pharaohs, and create your own art inspired by ancient objects throughout the Museum.

Open Houses Celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Boston with us on Open House days when we complement our encyclopedic collection with local, national, and internationally known performers, multilingual gallery talks (including American Sign Language), and hands-on art activities for families.
We open our doors for free on three Monday holidays each year. Everyone is invited to enjoy the MFA on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Open House underwritten by the Citizens Bank Foundation in January; Memorial Day in May, supported by the MFA Associates/Senior Associates; and Fall Open House on Columbus Day in October.
Studio Art Classes and Workshops The MFA offers studio art classes and workshops for families, children, teens, and adults, taught by a dedicated faculty of experienced artists and art educators. Course topics include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and Chinese calligraphy, among others. In the studio, students are encouraged to experiment with materials and explore a variety of ways to interpret their ideas in art.
